I went to do a quick scan and it was indeed good conditions, especially so since usually at this time of day locally conditions are less than ideal, and not a usual time that I do any real listening. R Habana is still transmitting on 9660kHz while I wait til the turn of the hour- “Guantanamera” is playing, simultaneously on 9740kHz also.

The thirty-five-year-old journalist, hailing from the restive Balochistan province in Pakistan, believes he could be killed at any time.

His fear is not unfounded. Over the last two years the press in Balochistan have weathered a bloody wave of violence.

In 2011 alone, ten journalists from the province were killed in their ‘line of duty’. Three lost their lives in explosions or in crossfire between armed groups and security forces, while the other seven were gunned down in blatant assassinations.

“If somebody would guarantee me my life, I would quit this profession in a second,” Tarakai told IPS. He rues the fateful day in May 2011 when he filmed the tragic slaughter of five unarmed foreigners (one of them a seven-month pregnant woman) at the hands of Pakistan’s security forces, near his home in Kharotabad, a public square in Quetta.

4450kHz noise jamming. Sounds a lot like what a helicopter sound effect is if you do not recognize this particular jammer. Amazing in this day and age, I bet 98% of Americans on the street have no idea that jamming exists or even if shortwave radio for that matter.
4540kHz that pulsing beep, whenever I hear a pulsing tone I automatically assume it’s radar of some kind. Unfortunately my “research” consists of online searching and WRTH2012. I do not have data/digital samples audio files to compare but I recommend you listeners find a good site with some sound files of utilities: UDXF group on Yahoo! is the best place, join them! In their file listings there are links and examples of some utility sounds. I am in need of more recently updated sound files, however- pass some links along to me that you find useful. Then went down the dial to 4811 kHz basic search I found this pearl:
