ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan has said that Radio Pakistan is playing very effective role in promoting country’s soft image abroad, besides safeguarding ideological boundaries with limited resources. Talking to Radio Pakistan from Ankara, Turkey, she said new changes are emerging in the field of media and social media is playing very vital role. She acknowledged that Radio Pakistan has taken steps as a social media and she hoped that Radio Pakistan will play its more coordinated role as social media with the collaboration of Turkish Radio to benefit from emerging media changes, besides ensuring timely provision of information to listeners.
Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan said that Turkish Radio and Radio Pakistan had already inked Memorandum of Understanding(MoU). She said she held meeting with the officials of Turkish Radio to ensure effective
implementation of the said MoU. She said concerned officers of Radio Pakistan will also be sent to Turkey to sort out further venues of mutual cooperation and implementation of steps already taken by both sides.
Dr Firdous said she held talks with Turkish Radio officials for providing better equipment and technical support to Radio Pakistan.
Minister said she discussed with Turkish officials issues pertaining to programs in different languages and it has been decided that Radio Pakistan will start airing immediately Turkish language program in the news bulletins.
She said Pakistan values the steps of Turkish government for the help of flood affected people of Pakistan. She said Turkish Radio is broadcasting telethon to give impetus to relief efforts for flood affectees of Pakistan. She said Associated Press of Pakistan and Anatolia (Turkish news agency) will ink an agreement on Wednesday for information sharing.
She expressed the hope that her visit will help both the countries to open new venues of cooperation in media sector. She said Pakistan Television and other media organizations of Pakistan are being digitalized with the help of Turkish Radio.
