Islamabad: A ten days training programme for PBC News‚ Programme and technical staff organized in collaboration with Deutsche Welle Akademia is in progress in Islamabad since Monday (10th October‚ 2011).
Addressing the opening ceremony Secretary Information and Broadcasting Taimur Azmat Osman has said that Radio Pakistan is the foremost broadcasting institution of the country and it should catch up with other media through innovation and production.
He said Radio Pakistan is the fastest and cheapest medium of information as hundred of thousands of mobile users can access it on their hand sets.
Acknowledging the contributions of Radio Pakistan to the country‚ he said these have been downplayed because of the glamour of other mediums. He said despite the age of internet and television channels‚ the utility of Radio Pakistan has not lost and we can restore its past glory and glamour through new ideas and innovation.
He said the way Radio Pakistan has entered into modern era and using the social media for dissemination of information is highly appreciable.
Highlighting the efficacy of training in every field‚ Taimur Azmat Osman said the need and necessity of training courses for Radio staffers is more important keeping in view the technological advances and latest trends in the field. He appreciated Radio Pakistan for realizing the need of training for its correspondents and technical staff and arranging such a course with the collaboration of Deutsche Welle. He expressed the confidence that participants of the course will gain knowledge from the rich experience of DW trainers. He hoped that such a partnership and cooperation between Radio Pakistan and DW will continue in future.
Speaking on the occasion‚ Director General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi said collaboration between Radio Pakistan and DW started way back in 1972. It remained frozen for quite sometime but now we are again on the path of reviving that relationship.
He said Radio Pakistan remains the mother institution of all the electronic media in the country and all the luminaries in the field of literature and art started their careers from this organization which continues to inspire the people.
Highlighting role of Radio Pakistan during natural calamities like earthquake and floods‚ he said it proved its utility and remained at the top. He said during this year’s floods in Sindh‚ Radio Pakistan started round the clock transmission to provide timely information to the people. Hyderabad station remained the nerve center while FM 101 continues to mobilize the people for the assistance of flood affected persons.
Murtaza Solangi said Radio Pakistan is no more an analogue organization rather it is transforming into a truly modern multimedia company by providing information to the people on cell phones‚ internet and the social media.
He said our bilingual website is one of the best government websites in the country. Our You Tube Channel is accessed across the world which contains historic speeches‚ interviews and old music. Radio Pakistan is also providing video streaming on its website. We are also in the process of developing our own application that will be available on blackberry and Nokia mobile phones.
DW trainers Marc Seidel and Jutta Vom Hofe said the training is aimed at equipping the participants with latest tools and techniques. They hoped the training will remain fruitful for the participants who then will be transferring their experience with their colleagues. They expressed the confidence that collaboration between DW and Radio Pakistan will be sustainable and long lasting.
The training course spreads over three sessions. In the first session‚ twelve correspondents from various stations of Radio Pakistan including remote areas will be trained to report on local issues including political‚ socio-economic and cultural. In the parallel session technical staff will be trained to improve their skills for quality local broadcasting.
Participants selected from the first two sessions will be trained in the third session to become trainers to disseminate their knowledge further in their respective stations.
